CR Hope Town: A Masterplan for Rural Revitalization

Transforming Longquan Village into a Thriving Community

Longquan Village boasts a unique blend of human, historical, and natural resources, with its picturesque mountains and rivers providing a stunning backdrop. The design team at the Chongqing Architectural Design Institute drew inspiration from these elements and sought to optimize land use, environmental conservation, cultural revival, and more. The result is a masterplan that not only transforms the physical landscape but also uplifts the lives of the villagers.

One of the key strengths of the CR Hope Town project is its focus on public welfare and social responsibility. Developed by the China Resources Group as part of their poverty alleviation programs, this initiative aims to reconstruct the primary-level management organization and enhance the spiritual life of the community. The design process involved extensive research and direct communication with the residents of Longquan Village. The village had numerous historical buildings in disrepair, lacking proper maintenance and management. The design team recognized the historical, artistic, and cultural significance of these buildings and made it a priority to restore and preserve them. By incorporating the diverse needs of the residents into a unified framework, the design ensures a harmonious and unified image for all residences in this rural tourism project.

The CR Hope Town project covers a land area of 41.3 hectares and includes the renovation and construction of 132 residential houses, the restoration of historical buildings, and the construction of public buildings such as hotels, art galleries, and tea houses. The landscape design and overall environmental improvement further enhance the beauty and functionality of the village.

Overcoming various challenges, including the renovation of numerous houses, the preservation of historical sites, farmland protection, and industrial revitalization, the CR Hope Town project stands as a testament to the power of design in transforming communities. The CR Hope Town project is still under construction, but its impact is already being recognized. In 2023, it was awarded the Bronze A' Design Award in City Planning and Urban Design.
